Lin Jun/Hou Zhiyao/Li Chunxia Angew: Monoatomic palladium nanoenzyme for mild photothermal treatment of enhanced iron death

Photothermal therapy (PTT) is a promising tumor treatment method. However, too much heat will inevitably damage the normal tissues near the tumor, and the tumor cell damage caused by mild heat is also easily repaired by stress-induced heat shock proteins (HSP). Therefore, how to generate an appropriate treatment temperature to maximize the efficiency of PTT while minimizing the damage of healthy tissue is of great significance to PTT. Researcher Lin Jun from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Hou Zhiyao from Guangzhou Medical University, and Researcher Li Chunxia from Shandong University reported for the first time a new strategy for enhancing PTT with iron death based on single-atom nanozyme (SAzyme).
Pd SAzyme with atom economy has mimic enzyme activities such as peroxidase (POD) and glutathione oxidase (GSHOx), as well as good light-to-heat conversion performance, which can induce iron death to make lipid peroxide (LPO) ) And reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels are up-regulated. Studies have shown that the accumulation of LPO and ROS can effectively cut off HSP, so the Pd SAzyme can achieve a good anti-tumor effect through mild PTT.
